Carl von Ossietzky Universitaet Oldenburg

The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg is a university located in Oldenburg, Germany. It is one of the most important and highly regarded educational facilities in northwestern Germany and specialises in interdisciplinary and sustainable development studies and renewable energy studies with focus on solar and wind energy. The university offers 95 courses of study. Due to the Bologna Process, in 2004 Oldenburg adopted Bachelor and Masters degrees in place of the former Diploma and Magister. 

One main focus of the university is teacher training, which was established during the 1970s and remains a strong presence with master's degrees in teaching offered in all faculties. The PhD program Didactical reconstruction is especially renowned, as is the research in computing sciences, sustainable development, encompassing several academic disciplines. The university is also allowed to confer Doctorates and oversee Habilitations.

The Department of Computing Sciences (DFI) at Oldenburg University currently has about 20 professors and their groups, about 1,400 students, about 50 scientific staff, three other Department-centric facilities that undertake service assignments in teaching and research, and a department administration.

In the field of sustainability and at the interface of nature, technology and society, the Center for Environment and Sustainability (COAST) integrates activities in the areas of research, teaching, transfer and governance. The focus is on inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration between science and diverse actors from practice. This extends from the university level to regional activities and national and international collaborations. Social challenges in the context of sustainability require innovative and cooperative strategies. Bridging disciplinary boundaries and working with complex subject areas characterize the Center for Environment and Sustainability.
